Why Should You Adopt?

Pet Overpopulation

Six and a half million pet are left at shelters annually in the U.S. That's six and a half animals without homes that are at risk of euthenasia. Adopting an animal takes one more animal out of the shelter system, and the fewer pets that there are in shelters, the better care and attention each shelter animal can recieve.

Puppy Mills

As much as we love specific breeds of dogs or cats, the simple fact is that most breeders are irresponsible and provide too little care to the mothers of their puppies and kittens. These puppy mills are known for overcrowding, disease, and taking away puppies before they are ready to be weened.

Instead of supporting selling animals for profit, think about taking a visit to your local shelter. There are still plenty of animals to choose from, and you will be helping to save a life!

Imbred Animals

Although there are some exceptions, mixed-breed animals tend to be healthier. This is because pure-bred dogs and cats are often bred to other animals that are too closely related.

These health problems can include everything from hip displasia to respiratory and cardiac problems. Mutts by definition are not bred with relatives, tend to inherit these problems less-frequently.

Mutts also tend to have less neurotic personalities than many high-strung breeds of dogs, often making them better-behaved animals if trained properly.
